The Action programme for the Promotion of Menstrual Health and Hygiene in Girls, which is being implemented in 2026, provides informational sessions for male and female students from the fifth grade of primary school to the third grade of high school nationally. Complementary sessions are also carried out for parents, caregivers and teachers, aiming to enhance knowledge and promote open, supportive dialogue around menstruation. The programme includes online training for teachers, school nurses, psychologists and social workers, particularly in remote, island and special education school settings. Moreover, an online platform is being developed to provide free educational resources for all target groups.
In parallel, approximately 18.3 million menstrual products will be distributed free of charge (over at least four months) to 125 000 female students in the fifth grade of primary school to the third grade of secondary school), across all schools nationwide.
This initiative forms part of the National Action for the Promotion of Child and Family Health, in collaboration with UNICEF, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund Greece 2.0. of the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
